Bio

Alex is the Global Head of Sustainability Research for BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM). In this role he is responsible for setting and implementing the firm’s sustainability research agenda and managing a global team of sustainability analysts. As a “center of excellence”, the team’s remit is to provide actionable sustainability insights to BNPP AM investment professionals working across asset classes. These insights are delivered both quantitatively (e.g. proprietary ESG scoring model) and qualitatively (e.g. thematic and sector research). Additionally, Alex was a lead architect of BNPP AM’s SFDR compliance regime and continues to develop the firm’s thorough response to the evolving European sustainable finance regulatory landscape.

An acknowledged sustainable finance thought leader and innovator, Alex has received multiple awards for his work within insurance and investment and developed expertise across diverse topics including climate scenario analysis, microinsurance, and impact investing. Alex joined BNPP AM from Marsh McLennan, where he was Director of Innovations, helping the firm to develop solutions systemic issues including climate resilience, the catastrophe protection gap, diversity, and sustainable infrastructure financing. He was previously Principal and US Responsible Investment Leader at Mercer, helping asset owners to manage sustainability challenges in their portfolios, particularly related to climate change. He joined Mercer from reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter where he devised bespoke risk transfer solutions for insurers and led several advisory engagements with DFIs and public-sector entities.
