Bio

Alaa is the Head of Emerging Markets (EM) Fixed Income and EM Corporates at BNP Paribas Asset Management. In this role, she is responsible for the management of the Emerging Market Fixed Income (EMFI) team. The EMFI investment team comprises of 13 investment professionals based in London, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur.

Prior to her promotion to Head of EMFI in 2024, Alaa was the Head of EM Corporates for the team, a role she still currently retains. In this role, she is responsible for alpha decisions related to hard and local currency emerging market quasi and corporate risk. She joined FFTW in London in 2007 as a portfolio analyst where she was responsible for leading the project leading to the first QIF Sukuk Fund and created and developed the proprietary credit risk model, progressing to this role in 2013.

Alaa joined the BNP Paribas Group in 2004 at their MENA headquarters in Bahrain where she spent a number of years at BNP Paribas Corporate and Investment Banking group in Strategic Corporate Coverage.

Alaa has 21 years of industry experience. She holds a BSc in Finance from Drake University and an MBA from Imperial College London.
